Video: Our Interview With Andrea James, Independent Candidate For Massachusetts Governor

The Roxbury-based James addresses education, housing, prisons, and being excluded from the gubernatorial debate

In this exclusive in-depth interview with BINJ reporter Jean Trounstine, independent candidate for Massachusetts governor Andrea James discusses various aspects of her platform relevant to issues including housing, education, healthcare, childcare, and opposition to a new prison for women.

In their talk, James opens up about her family’s deep ties to the commonwealth, and notes that she is running to be governor for reasons outside of the status quo. As she explains at length, her lived experience is unique for a politician, in this field or any other.

James also reveals how she was shut out from the recent debate with her opponents, Democrat incumbent Maura Healey, and Republican Mike Minogue.

On Nov. 1, two days before the Nov. 3 election, the independent candidate will join activist icon Angela Davis in conversation on stage at the Strand Theatre in Boston.
