Fresh dining, shopping, music, and beachcombing, all just an hour and 15 minutes away!

When the noise of the city feels overwhelming and gas prices keep climbing, there’s an easy, affordable escape waiting just outside Boston. Thanks to the MBTA’s commuter rail, you and your partner can trade crowded streets for sea breezes, fresh seafood, and coastal charm—all without ever getting behind the wheel.

One of the best escapes from Boston’s hustle and bustle is Rockport, Massachusetts, easily reachable via the Newburyport/Rockport Line. This charming coastal town offers stunning beaches, fresh seafood, and a vibrant art scene—perfect for couples looking to unwind.

Getting there
Rockport is just about an hour and 15 minutes from North Station by train. Once you arrive, most attractions are within walking distance, meaning you can enjoy a full day without worrying about transportation.

Start your day: breakfast at Lattof Farmhouse Kitchen
Begin your morning with breakfast at Lattof Farmhouse Kitchen, a cozy breakfast spot known for its fresh baked muffins and hot coffee. Located just a half-mile from the train station, this rustic café offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere—an ideal first stop before a day of exploring.

Hit the beach: Front Beach
A 10 minute walk from the station, Front Beach captures the essence of Rockport perfectly. Pack your camera: the picturesque views of rolling tides and sparkling sand are worth capturing.

While you’re there, take time to explore the tide pools where you might find sea glass, shells, and even small crabs. You never know what treasure you’ll be able to find.

As a public beach, Front Beach has no entry fee, and in summer months, lifeguards are on duty to ensure safe swimming. Public bathrooms are also available, making it a convenient stop for a few hours of relaxation.

Front Beach is ideally located near Main Street, so you can easily continue your day without needing a car.

Explore Main Street: shopping and dining
Main street offers dozens of restaurants, galleries, and boutiques to explore. Seafood lovers can head to Fleur Harborside Cuisine, where you can enjoy fresh lobster rolls and oysters with a waterfront view.

Prefer something different? Just a short walk away on Beach Street, 35 Beach offers a creative mix of Japanese and Italian-inspired dishes in a cozy setting.

Embrace the arts
Still on Main Street, there are several art galleries and museums for everyone to appreciate the local artists and atmosphere.

The Rockport Art Association and Museum, which highlights work from renowned artists and hosts exhibitions like Grassroots, featuring emerging local talent.

If you’re up for a short bus ride, check out the Rockport Music Liu Performance Theater, home to year-round concerts in a breathtaking oceanfront setting. From jazz and folk to pop music, the center’s lineup offers something for every music lover. In the summer, the center hosts its celebrated Chamber Music Festival, attracting world-class soloists and ensembles.

Heading home
After a full day of sightseeing, you’re only a short walk—or a quick bus ride—back to the Rockport station. Hop on the train, relax, and in just over an hour you’ll be back in Boston, refreshed and ready for what’s next.
