Head to the Seaport this Saturday for innovative show tunes and tasty snacks (all free!)
BOSTON – With theater-inspired originals, holiday standards, and nostalgic covers, Shira Laucharoen’s “Before the Snow” promises an enjoyable musical experience.
The free show premieres on Saturday, November 23, 7-8:30 p.m., at the Fort Point Arts Community Arts Space in Boston’s Seaport neighborhood. Laucharoen’s vocals and piano will be accompanied by Olivia Katz of the Semiosis Quartet on the cello.
“I really want this to be music that touches people,” the Somerville-based composer said. “I’m hoping people will come in maybe with one perspective and maybe experience a bit of a shift coming out of it. I think if it encourages people to believe more deeply in sort of the reality of their dreams and the reality of their own perceptions, I think that’s what art is ultimately about.”
Laucharoen built the idea for the show after FPAC President Christine Vaillancourt told her that there was gallery space available for music programming. As the holidays approach, Laucharoen said the show has a bit of a holiday theme to it, but the focus will be on her original songs.
“They deal with romantic love, but they also deal with sort of contradictions in authority and the idea of letting go of the past,” Laucharoen said. “So I think there’s gonna be a bit of variety in the stories that people are hearing there and, hopefully, some depth.”Tickets for “Before the Snow” are free and can be reserved via Eventbrite. The show is just a short six-minute walk from the Snowport Holiday Market and will feature refreshments donated by Levain Bakery.
