For nearly 10 years, the Boston Institute for Nonprofit Journalism, publisher of HorizonMass, has been producing bold investigative reporting that challenges the status quo. We report on critical issues that are neglected by the bigger media outlets, and our investigations often lead to proposals for reform. It’s local journalism that matters— and it would not be possible without the support of readers like you!
As you may have heard, BINJ was honored recently by Press Forward, a national coalition of foundations aiming to invest in the nation’s best local and regional journalism. BINJ is one of the 205 news outlets chosen to receive grants of $100,000 from Press Forward’s new initiative to “close local coverage gaps.”
We received this highly competitive grant in recognition of our ground-breaking investigative journalism, our commitment to providing coverage of marginalized communities and under-reported issues, our efforts to educate the next generation of professional journalists, and our effectiveness in organizing coalitions of independent nonprofit newsrooms both regionally and nationally.
Press Forward will not ensure our financial stability. But it will give us a chance to build our development and outreach efforts for longer-term sustainability. For that, we need your support.
And now we have an opportunity to make your donation go even further through NewsMatch, a collaborative national effort to support independent, public service journalism, led by the Institute for Nonprofit News and the Miami Foundation. From now through Dec. 31, the first $15,000 donated by our readers during our end-of-year campaign will be matched dollar for dollar by NewsMatch!
