WE REACHED OUR FUNDING GOAL, THANK YOU!

BINJ’s 2024 annual fundraiser was a success

In my previous note, I thanked all our supporters for reading the articles produced by my colleagues and me at the Boston Institute for Nonprofit Journalism, telling folks about us, and helping us raise a good deal of money at the end of 2024.

In this note, with our big annual November and December fundraiser completed and the $50,000 fundraising floor we set for ourselves reached, I’d just like to specifically thank all our supporters for helping us achieve our toughest challenge within that effort: raising the $15,000 we needed to release the NewsMatch matching grant of the same amount offered by the Institute for Nonprofit News and the Miami Foundation–which is tricky because only donations of $1,000 or less count toward the match.

So, a bunch of you helped us do a difficult thing … again. Thanks!

We’re definitely happy that we raised what we needed to raise and that we get to keep BINJ going for another year. Please keep spreading the word about BINJ and our statewide, student-driven, news magazine HorizonMass to friends, family, and colleagues, it’s definitely working! Cheers to all!

If you appreciate the work we are doing, please keep us going strong by making a tax-deductible donation to our IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit sponsor, the Boston Institute for Nonprofit Journalism!

BINJ not only produces longform investigative stories that it syndicates for free to community news outlets around Massachusetts but also works with dozens of emerging journalists each year to help them learn their trade while providing quality reporting to the public at large.

Now in its 10th year, BINJ has produced hundreds of hard-hitting news articles—many of which have taken critical looks at corporations, government, and major nonprofits, shedding light where it’s needed most.

BINJ punches far above its weight on an undersized budget—managing to remain a player in local news through difficult times for journalism even as it continues to provide leadership at the regional and national levels of the nonprofit news industry.

With your help BINJ can grow to become a more stable operation for the long term and continue to provide Bay State residents more quality journalism for years to come.
