“Voices from Somerville’s Italian Community”
The Somerville Museum will be hosting an event, “Voices from Somerville’s Italian Community,” on March 24 at 6:30 p.m. The conversation is part of a popular series, Voices from Somerville: Culture, Community, and History.” Members of the local Italian community will share stories and talk about their work in Somerville and beyond. The panelists are all Somerville High School graduates. They include:
- Michael Capuano – Former U.S. representative (1999-2019), mayor of Somerville (1990-1998), Somerville alderman (1977-79, 1985-89);
- Bob DiGuardia – Musician and adjunct professor, Suffolk University;
- Peter Galeno – Recipient, Somerville Historic Preservation Award, and recipient, Somerville Garden Award for continuing an Italian garden started by his father;
- Regina Pisa – Chairman emeritus and partner, Goodwin Procter LLP.
Also featuring:
Dan Breen – Historian, Brandeis University, and Somerville resident.

“Kalliope Reed Quintet” at the Somerville Museum
The Somerville Museum is holding the “Kalliope Reed Quintet Community Concert,” an evening of music and chocolate, on March 25, at 6 p.m. According to a media release, “Through music, this program tours South America south to north starting in Argentina with Astor Piazzolla’s Tango Suite, Transoceanica by Miguel del Aguila (Uruguay)—musically depicting a bus adventure from Rio Brazil to Lima Peru. After arriving in Peru we will perform two works we commissioned by Pervian composer Daniel Cueto: “Momentos Peruanos”and “Amaru,” and complete the program with some new arrangements from Colombia.”
Admission is $10 per person, and museum members may attend for free. Space is limited—purchase your tickets today!
Somerville Tenants’ Rights Webinar
Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, the City of Somerville Office of Housing Stability, and the Community Action Agency of Somerville invite the public to a webinar about tenants’ rights, housing advocacy and rental assistance services, and community organizing to prevent eviction and displacement. Somerville’s local eviction moratorium, which was put in place in March 2020, will remain in effect until April 30.
The webinar is Wednesday, March 23, at 6:30 p.m. Learn more and register to attend at somervillema.gov/ohs. Spanish and Portuguese interpretation will be provided, and other languages can be requested on the registration form.
Council on Aging Board of Directors seeks new members
The City of Somerville Council on Aging Board of Directors is currently seeking seven new members, and all Somerville residents are welcome to apply.
A media release described the role of members of the Board of Directors: “The mission of the Board of Directors is to inform, assist, and advocate for all persons 60 years of age or older who reside in Somerville. The Board works collaboratively with senior citizens and other agencies to improve the quality of life for local seniors. The Board typically meets on the first Friday of each month for two hours. Board members serve two-year terms in a volunteer capacity.”
Applications are due Friday, April 15.
